Alexander Wilson

 FAMILY TREE OF ALEXANDER WILSON, FAMOUS ASTROLOGER AND TYPESETTER OF SCOTLAND

(This is as much that has come to light so far on this famous man for his family tree.  There is a very interesting Biographical Account written by his son Patrick Wilson in the Annals of Philosophy, Volume 28 in Annals of philosophy, Volume 28 in November 1826 which is available on line and gives a very detailed account of his life and work and discoveries)

2.  ALEXANDER2 WILSON (PATRICK1) was born 1714 in St Andrews, Fife, Scotland5, and died 16 October 1786 in Edinburgh, Scotland5.  He married (1) UNKNOWN Abt. 1740.    He married (2) JEAN SHARP6 1752, daughter of WILLIAM SHARP. 

 

Notes for ALEXANDER WILSON:

Eighteenth century Scottish typefounder. After an education in London he started the Wilson Foundry in 1742, moving the business to Glasgow in 1744. Richard Austin, Johann Christian Bauer, and William Miller all worked for Wilson. The business passed to his son Andrew and grandson Alexander, under whose leadership it went bankrupt in 1845.

Jean and Alexander Wilson had three sons who eventually joined their father in the business. Jean, however, died and Wilson remarried in 1752.
